The CSD Board of Directors has approved the adoption of the Science & Technology Concepts Curriculum by Smithsonian Science Education Center as the core science curriculum for 7th and 8th grade. Students and staff have been pilot testing the curriculum since the beginning of the school year.
The Smithsonian curriculum is much more lab focused than past science curriculum has been at the school. This has led to higher levels of student engagement and rigor in CMS science classes. “This model will help better prepare our middle school students for success in their high school lab science courses,” said Kristy Vetter, Director of Teaching & Learning.
The recommendation to adopt the curriculum was made by the District’s Instructional Materials Review Committee (IMRC). The group met on January 24th to review presentations, including a review of the Science & Technology Concepts materials from CMS science teacher, Monica Lewis.
