Third Annual Future Chef

Centralia School District's third annual Future Chef event was held at Oakview Elementary on March 20th. Fourth and Fifth grade students were invited to participate in a culinary contest with a "healthy Mexican" theme. Nine students took part, each preparing a dish from scratch using ingredients provided by Sodexo, Centralia's food service partner. 

Kycen Donahue, a fifth grade student at Oakview, was the grand prize winner with his black bean salad. He took home a cookware set and utensils as a prize, courtesy of Sodexo. Kycen is also now entered into Sodexo's national competition. Runners-up were Carter Culetto, Kaylee Williams, and Melissa Baine.  Other students participating were Terri Holley, Emelia Drott, Zach Hubbard, Daniel Chapman, and Dakota Pledger. 

Sodexo organizes and sponsors the annual event as a way to help get students interested in cooking and in healthy eating. Each year's event has a healthy theme. 

Thank you to our Food Services Director, Mike Young, our food service staff volunteers, and judges (Kim Ashmore, Mark Davalos, Danielle Vekich, Greg Teel, and Jami Lund). Last year's winner, Natalia H. came back this year as a guest judge.
